Compassion fade is a psychological phenomenon where people’s empathy and willingness to help decrease as the number of people in need increases.
This is probably because people’s perception of the positive impact they will have diminishes as the number of people requiring help increases. A case of diminishing marginal benefit of aid.
They see it as an insurmountable systemic issue that cannot be improved with their help. To add to this, there is a vortex/suction affect to involving oneself in systemic problems - especially those affecting people. It has its way of pulling one in and transferring components of those problems to the new parties. We’re not accessing whether or not this is a good thing, we are observing its occurrence.
People in general prefer to enjoy their resources.
The world teaches us we must solve our own problems with the appropriate mentality.
